Urgent opportunity to save our bees!

Dear Paov,
Do you want a future with bees in it?

The science is piling up against neonicotinoids (neonics). These bee-killing pesticides are causing worldwide bee colony collapse. Bees are struggling to survive in a land contaminated by toxic neonics. Neonic pesticides contributed to the loss of 58 per cent of bees in Ontario in a single winter.
The end is near for either the use of neonics or bees on our planet – if one is to exist, the other must go.

Right now, Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) is asking for public feedback on new proposals for the use of two of these neonics, clothianidin and thiamethoxam, and the recommendations are weak.

Write a letter now

The PMRA has recommended:

  • To allow the continued use of neonics on certain plants. But neonics will continue to contaminate environments that haven’t been sprayed because they are carried by water and wind.
  • To limit the use of neonics per year. But science has shown that neonics persist and accumulate in the environment. Treating crops once a year will still have lasting impacts.
  • To add additional labelling on neonics. Putting the fate of our bees in “suggested” use of pesticides will not save the bees.

Right now, while consultations are underway, Health Canada is allowing farmers to soak their soil, plants and seeds with neonics until Dec. 2019, that’s two more years! We must demand an immediate ban on neonics while the consultation period occurs. It’s time for real action to protect the bees!
Will you write Health Canada right now and tell them that they must ban all use of neonics in Canada once and for all?

Write now

The PMRA should never have allowed the use of these neonics. They didn’t follow their own guidelines and they gave approval to use neonics before science- based evaluations were completed. That’s why we have taken the PMRA to court with some of our allies, represented by Ecojustice, to fight this unlawful process that allowed using these pesticides in the first place.

While we're in court battling it out on behalf of the bees, please take a minute to write the government and tell them to ban neonics in Canada now.
For the bees,

Charlotte
