If you missed my message last week, three kind Council of Canadians donors have come together to match dollar-for-dollar all donations made before December 31, up to a total of $20,000!
I’m thrilled to share with you that more than 200 people have contributed in the last couple of days – and had their donations matched.
But we’re only halfway there.

I have some great news to share! Three Council of Canadians supporters (who wish to remain anonymous) have just come together to give our work a needed year-end boost.
They will match dollar-for-dollar all donations made, up to a total of $20,000!

This means your donation of $50 is matched for a $100 impact. DONATE NOW AND HAVE IT MATCHED! The timing couldn’t be more crucial. The Council hasn’t been immune to the financial impact COVID-19 is having on not-for-profits. We’ve seen fewer individual donations than normal, which are the source of more than 90 per cent of our funding. To retain our independence, we don’t take donations from corporations, governments or political parties.
That hasn’t slowed us down, though! Thanks to all the ways you contribute, the Council was able to adapt and innovate early in the year – doing more with less to ensure we continue to carry out our mission and make a positive difference on issues the pandemic has made more urgent than ever.
Our staff met with federal officials to demand action on the crisis in long-term care, we mobilized thousands of supporters to call on their MPs to bail-out people not corporations, we pushed for the federal COVID-19 recovery plan to include ending the drinking water crisis in First Nations and implementing the human right to water and sanitation, and a lot more.
That’s why I’m deeply grateful to you and every single one of our members and donors.
But I have to be honest with you. We’ve had to tighten our belts this year. Our team needs an influx of resources to hold governments and corporations accountable in this critical moment.

Looking back on this year, I’m immensely proud of the good work all of us – you, me, Council staff, board, chapter activists, members and donors across the country – came together to accomplish despite the pandemic. Right now, you and I have the greatest opportunity in generations to achieve transformative changes for people, the planet and democracy. And the Council is uniquely positioned to build and organize the people power needed to drive that change in communities across the country.
