Cambie is back in Courts!

NationBuilder r1 British Columbia Health Coalition

Paov --

The final 3 days of arguments in the Cambie Surgical Case resume today, Tuesday, February 25th, following an unforeseen court delay.

90% of British Columbians agree that access to healthcare in the Province should be based on need rather than their ability to pay - according to a recent poll.

This is the core issue being argued before the Supreme Court of British Columbia in the landmark legal challenge that will be entering its final week of arguments today.

The legal challenge aims to strike down key provisions of the Medicare Protection Act, which would incentivize publicly enrolled doctors to spend more time with patients who pay to see them, over those... who come through the public system. It would also open the Canadian health insurance market to U.S. private insurance firms, bringing with them the predatory profit-first ethic that has severely compromised care in the U.S.

During November and December, public health care supporters across the country came together to defend an equitable and accessible health care system from those who would put profits over patients. Supporters volunteered to cover 31 court watching shifts, 228 people wrote letters to their editor and hundreds more used social media to fact check Brian Day.

We need to keep this pressure going through these final few days.

Join us in court on Thursday, February 27th at 10am and hear constitutional lawyer, Joe Arvay, argue on behalf of the Coalition intervenors. If you can’t get to the law courts in person, you can show support by using social media to check in at the Vancouver Law Courts on the 27th.

Let’s make it clear that the corporate plaintiffs don’t represent the public interest. Post these social media graphics, showing the overwhelming support for Public Health Care with #CambieCase #NotToDay

Health care based on need not ability to pay Most people support public health care For profit care would mostly help the wealthiest
