Hi Paov,
Thanks to you, it seems the federal government is treading carefully with its planned bailout for the oil industry. It’s been over two weeks since Finance Minister Bill Morneau promised it would be “hours, possibly days” and we know our pushback has been part of that delay.
We also know handouts for failing oil companies will not help their workers. Instead, let’s build these families and their communities a more resilient economy. This crisis can be the start of a just transition off fossil fuels but we need your help.
Will you write a letter to the editor for your local paper asking Canada to be smart about its rescue package?
That’s not to say that’s the best plan but it gives you a sense of what’s possible if we choose to bail out workers, not CEOs. Canada’s future is riding on the decisions we make right now. We can bury the hatchet and begin transforming our economy to be better prepared for future crises or we can squander this opportunity and hand even more public dollars to oil executives.
That’s the conversation we need to be having across this country and you can help start it. A letter in your local paper will show your neighbours and the federal cabinet Canadians are ready for it. But the clock is ticking on the bailout package — can you write today? Take Action Now Let’s have the courage now to use our response to this pandemic to better prepare our economy for the next crisis.
