In March, we shared the government’s announcement that “if you are present in B.C. and would otherwise not be eligible for coverage under MSP, you will be provided provincially insured health care coverage for services related to, suspected, or confirmed cases of infection with COVID-19.”
While there were issues with slow implementation of the policies, thanks to mobilisation from community members, health care professionals, and BC Health Coalition members like yourself as well as our communication with the Minister’s Office, we are now confident that people who have accessed these services will not have to fear debt or financial hardship regardless of when or where they accessed these services.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted that our community wellbeing is highly interconnected, and it is in all of our best interest to guarantee health care to all people. The BC Health Coalition joined over 200 organizations including the Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Doctors for Medicare, the College of Family Physicians of Canada and the Canadian Pediatric Society in calling on the federal government to ensure equitable access to health care, regardless of immigration status across the country. Thank you for your support in ensuring the implementation of British Columbia’s policy as a step towards that ultimate goal.
