GRANNIES SAY NO MORE PUBLIC FUNDING OF FOR-PROFIT SENIOR CARE HOMES

On July 9th, 2020, the Victoria Raging Grannies will sing and comment on the sad state of extended care in BC and in Canada. This will take place in front of the Ministry of Health Offices at 1515 Blanshard Street at 11 am.

During the current Covid 19 pandemic, it has become very apparent that institutional safety, comfort and care for seniors is in crisis in Canada. As of June 1 st , deaths from Covid-19 at long-term care facilities totalled 6,007, or 82% of all

deaths in Canada.

Although there are many excellent residences, we have all read stories of care homes where overworked and underpaid workers simply did not show up, residents were left to fend for themselves, and people who had died were left in

their beds, while families were unaware of the situations and could not visit theirloved ones due to quarantine regulations.

As Senior citizens, the Victoria Raging Grannies are extremely concerned andwant to make sure that this issue remains in the public eye until all Seniors are comfortable, healthy and safe in their care homes.
