⚡ Phone blitz to stop old-growth logging

⚡ Phone blitz to stop old-growth logging r1 ...

It’s our third BIG TREE TUESDAY phone blitz!

Hi Paov,

Your calls are making a difference.

The provincial government is feeling the heat for continuing to permit the destruction of non-renewable old-growth forests, despite promising to protect them in the last election.

The destruction of old-growth has serious consequences for endangered species, clean water and a safe climate, so this week we’re targeting BC’s environment minister, George Heyman.

Call him today and demand his government take real action to protect old-growth forests now!

Make my call This is a repeating tactic on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, with a different target each time. On our first two Big Tree Tuesday phone blitzes, hundreds of people flooded the phone lines of Teal Jones, the controversial Surrey-based logging company, and Premier John Horgan.

In addition to all their other values and benefits, standing old-growth forests have a crucial role to play in the fight against climate change — the most important challenge of our time. Old-growth can store more carbon than younger forests and research shows logging these forests increases our vulnerability to climate disasters.

It’s time for the minister of environment and climate change strategy to break his silence on the connection between forests and climate change and call for the protection of old-growth. Make my call After you make your call, use email or social media to invite your friends — the more people who take to the phones, the better.

We need a just transition to sustainable second-growth forestry that honours and upholds Indigenous sovereignty and respects ecological limits, and we have a right to demand this. So take a few minutes to make your Big Tree Tuesday call today!
