Hi PAOV,
You may have heard the disappointing news recently that the BC government has approved the proposed Woodfibre LNG plant in Squamish – despite thousands of petition signatures stating the public’s opposition to the proposal, and the obvious environmental impacts that go along with the project.
We want you to know that we will not be giving up the fight against Woodfibre LNG, and that all hope is not lost. The project is still far from being built, and there are many hurdles the company needs to get through before that happens.
For starters, there is the question of city permits for work concerning the pipeline that is needed to supply gas for Woodfibre LNG. These permits would be issued from Squamish District Council, and the council has been very clear about its opposition to the project.
Then there are the conditions put in place by the Squamish Nation before it will support the project. Although the Nation’s statements are not an outright “no”, they still represent a major stumbling block.
As for the Wilderness Committee, we are bringing our allies together to work out how best to move forward as a coalition. Local groups liker0
