90 per cent of gas piped into B.C. buildings comes from fracking, making it the third largest source of our province’s climate pollution.

The fact that we burn toxic, planet-heating gas in our homes, schools and workplaces and think nothing of it is a testament to the power of industry marketing campaigns that have branded gas as ‘clean’ and ‘natural'.

Powering buildings with clean electricity instead of dirty gas makes a lot of sense in a province like B.C with abundant hydro energy. While switching over existing buildings will take time, keeping gas out of the new ones being built should be step one,... just like we saw Washington state do earlier this month.

Unfortunately, B.C. is still making the problem worse. Last year, Horgan’s government allowed Fortis to connect 10,000 new customers to fossil gas lines. If we continue down the current path, the number of buildings that will need costly renovations down the line will only grow, emissions will keep rising and more deadly climate disasters will happen.

Fortis is using every trick in the book to keep customers and politicians hooked on the myth of ‘natural’ gas. Their aggressive lobbying is preventing B.C. from making the rapid switch to all-electric buildings that’s needed to meet our climate goals.

If you haven’t already, break through the noise and call on our new premier and his cabinet to make a better choice by taking the first step of banning gas from all new buildings. Action Youth Climate Corps An invitation to the country’s youth to mobilize to confront today’s gravest threat: the climate emergency. We are past overdue on a real plan that acts fast to transform the country away from its current trajectory of growing emissions and climate disaster. A Youth Climate Corps would put thousands of young people to work in rapidly curbing emissions, preparing our infrastructure for the coming climate impacts, and responding to the emergencies we're locking in. Send a message now to key cabinet ministers and MPs demanding clear action for a Youth Climate Corps that will kick off a decade of real climate action. Send a message Demand a Real Investment in a Just Transition
The Federal Government is soon expected to deliver on the long-promised Just Transition Act. This comes as a result of over a decade of demands from labour, Indigenous, and climate communities. This could be a watershed moment. But it will mean little if it's not backed up by a strong financial commitment to the transition away from fossil fuels. Join us in amplifying the call for a new Federal Transfer that sees us spend what it takes to win.
