Hi Paov,
Last Monday was the release of the latest global climate report. It shows us all the ways climate change makes life on Earth more difficult.
Of course, here in BC, we don’t need a report to tell us.
We’ve felt climate disasters first-hand. Dizzyness after days in scorching heat. Anxiety wondering how we’ll get home when torrential rains have knocked out highways. Disbelief at the loss of a treasured town in mere minutes.
Environment Minister George Heyman says BC can no longer wait to fight climate change. We agree. But talk is cheap. Will he do the right thing and ask the BC Environmental Assessments Office (BCEAO) to reject the expansion of Tilbury LNG?
FortisBC wants to turn its existing LNG storage plant on the banks of the Fraser River into a major export and refueling facility. This expansion alone could create as much carbon pollution as major cities like Vancouver and Surrey. It would increase emissions from BC’s oil and gas sector when the CleanBC plan requires them to be cut by 33 per cent.
