Hi Paov,
We did it! Because you answered the call, West Fraser held off on logging 54 cutblocks in endangered caribou habitat. Together, we’ve helped keep their habitat intact and new photos reveal that caribou are safely using the habitat that would have been logged.
Caribou recently sighted near the 54 proposed cutblocks
Last year my colleague Em and I travelled into the Interior on a week-long road trip documenting folks on the ground standing up for caribou in opposition to habitat-destroying industrial projects. This took us to Alberta where the Mountain Metis and local community members were asking for help to stop logging in the Moon Creek area.

In Moon Creek, the La Peche caribou herd is fighting for survival in the face of logging company West Fraser’s brutal clearcut plans. The company announced plans to log 54 cutblocks within the winter and migratory range of the La Peche caribou herd near Willmore Wilderness Area.
On a spring morning in September, local community member Shane, stepped outside and saw a huge male caribou in the valley habitat just below his cabin. Seeing this caribou means that the caribou had safely crossed the migration habitat from the mountain tops. This was the habitat that would have been logged.
Other caribou were found by trail cameras all over the area!
