Hi Paov,
Decades have gone by while the federal government sat back and watched spotted owls plummet to the brink of extinction. They’ve remained silent while owl habitat is greenlighted for logging by the BC government.
Now, with a single wild born spotted owl left, the federal minister of environment has finally determined the owls are facing imminent threats to their survival and recovery. He is recommending an emergency order.
We need the federal cabinet to approve it.
Under the federal Species at Risk Act, a minister must recommend an emergency order to get protection for a listed species when they are facing imminent threats to their survival and recovery. The federal cabinet has only ever approved an emergency order twice in the history of the Species at Risk Act. This needs to be the third time!
