A,

WOW -- last month, almost 4,000 SumOfUs members in Canada took our survey to develop a people powered-plan for 2019 to fight for people and the planet over corporate profits. That’s more responses than we imagined. Thank you.

The results are in! The issue you care about most right now is climate change, with 61% saying it’s the most important issue facing the world right now.

We listened by supporting the Wet'suwet'en people's fight... against the TransCanada Coastal Gas Link, the pipeline that would tap into the largest fracking project in Canadian history. And more importantly, the pipeline does not have the collective free, prior, and informed consent of the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs. All the Wet'suwet'en Clans have rejected the Coastal GasLink pipeline.

We also learned from the survey that you thought our victory to save the bees, our campaign protect our water in BC and Ontario, and our support of the unanimous vote in Parliament to provide a solution to Canada’s plastics problem were the three most important SumOfUs campaigns in 2018.

Going forward in our 2019 planning, we will plan more campaigns targeting Bayer so we protect our bees, fight back against Nestle sucking communities dry in the name of profits, and take on the global plastics crisis caused by challenging corporations like Coca-Cola and McDonalds.

The rest of the findings are really interesting to us. Some highlights:

  • You want SumOfUs to partner with more groups, especially leading up to the 2019 Federal election -- we will be sure to continue dialogue with groups we work with and ask more partners organizations for their permission to highlight their role in our campaigns leading up the election in October;
  • We already knew that you liked signing petitions, sharing them on social media, and emailing relevant stakeholders, but we didn’t expect you to texting as the fourth thing you would like to do to fight back against corporate power -- we will be sure to ask you for your phone number so you can take action by texting too.
  • We read all the written additional comments you wrote. We especially enjoyed the comments that you really understood SumOfUs’ mission to fight for people and planet over corporate profits.

Reading these survey results, we are so excited for 2019. But, I’ve got to level with you, A -- we fell short of our 2018 fundraising goals. Right now, we have two campaigners based in Canada, and if you chip in, we can hire another staff member to make sure we can take on some of the biggest corporations on Earth, like you asked us to in our survey.

Click here to chip in so we can have a strong team at SumOfUs for 2019.
