PAOV — Is your cellphone bill breaking your heart this Valentine’s Day? Cellphone service in Canada is significantly more expensive than in countries like Australia and the UK. Petition starter Celina feels that Canadian consumers are being scammed out of their hard earned dollars. She’s asking the CRTC to step in to ensure cellphone plans are affordable. CANADIANS ARE BEING SCAMMED!Here in Canada we pay extremely high prices for our cellphones and cable in comparison to countries like Australia, United Kingdom and United States of America.
Recently a meme has been circulating showing a direct comparison between Australian provider Vodafone and our own Rogers Communications. Vodafone Australia is currently offering on their site (as of January 30, 2019) 150GB as a promotion for $80 (regularly 80GB for this price) while Canadians are forced to pay the same price for a fraction of the service - the Rogers plan only offers 4GB of data (regularly 1GB) for $80.
This is unethical and not okay. It's time we stand up for our hard earned dollars and demand limitations be put in place to stop the wallet gouging of hard working Canadians. We must force our telecommunications companies to provide Canadians better service for the astronomically high price they're forced to pay for what is a necessity to function in our high-tech society in 2019.
