Canadian Tire

Tell Canadian Tire to pull toxic glyphosate from its shelves

The toxic pesticide, glyphosate, in Monsanto’s Roundup is being linked to cancer and the Canadian government is doing nothing to protect us.

If the federal government won’t act, it’s up to us to pressure major retailers like Canadian Tire and Home Depot to take Roundup, and glyphosate, off the shelves for good.

Glyphosate, the pesticide the World Health Organization has named a “probable carcinogen," is everywhere -- on our crops, lawns, and parks. Traces of Monsanto’s toxic weed-killer are now showing up everywhere from... tampons to breakfast cereals.

But while leaders in France and Belgium have taken steps to ban glyphosate, Canada refuses to take steps to ban the toxic pesticide.

But we can help stop the use of glyphosate before it’s too late. Canadian Tire and Home Depot are two of the biggest home improvement retail chains in Canada, and if they stop selling glyphosate because of public pressure, it will send a strong message to the industry and the government, that people in Canada don’t want this carcinogen in our lives.

Call on Canadian Tire and Home Depot to protect our health and stop selling products containing toxic glyphosate.

We’re only starting to see the consequences of the widespread use of glyphosate. A San Francisco jury just found Monsanto liable for causing Dewayne Johnson’s cancer, a former groundskeeper exposed to Monsanto’s Roundup on the job. He’s not alone: there are 4,000 similar cancer lawsuits facing the GMO giant.

We know the government needs more incentive to act. Recently, Health Canada refused to re-open the registration of glyphosate and stood by its safety. If we can’t move the hand of the government yet, we have to rely on retailers to protect us from toxic products and take them off the shelf.

We know this strategy works because we’ve won before. After nearly 750,000 SumOfUs members asked huge North American retailers to stop selling bee-harming neonics, both Lowe's and Home Depot listened. Now, we need to join together again to call on Canadian Tire and Home Depot to stop exposing customers to cancer-causing glyphosate products.

Canadian Tire and Home Depot: stop selling Roundup and other cancer-causing glyphosate products!
