Green New Deal

A,

Last week, we were rocked by the news that the National Energy Board, an institution we know prioritizes corporations, approved the Trans Mountain pipeline -- again.

With this news, it's clear that in addition to fighting pipelines, we need to push for transformative climate policies that transition us off fossil.

And we have a chance to do just that -- SumOfUs has been invited to join a coalition of organizations across the country to work on creating a Green New Deal for Canada.

To help us make a decision on whether to join, we wanted to ask you, our members, a simple question: Do you think SumOfUs should join the coalition to push for a Green New Deal in Canada?

YES!... TO a Green New deal NO! focus on other corporate issues

A Green New Deal is a plan for how we can eliminate poverty and create millions of jobs while tackling the biggest threat of our time: climate change.

The Green New Deal has gained momentum in the last months championed by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and grassroots groups such as the Sunrise Movement. It has dominated American airwaves with Democratic presidential candidates for 2020 staking positions on it, while Republican and conservative outlets such as FoxNews dismiss the idea.

We believe that joining this coalition would bring the Green New Deal into Canadian discourse ahead of the Federal elections this year, but it would be a massive investment of time and energy for SumOfUs.

So we want to hear from you: should SumOfUs join the coalition and work for a Green New Deal in Canada?

YES! TO a Green New deal NO! focus on other corporate issues

Over the last several years, you have fought Big Oil countless times. From tar sands expansion projects to tailing ponds to pipeline after pipeline you have shown up to stop Big Oil from trashing our planet and bulldozing Indigenous rights.

Instead of constantly defending our planet from the threats of more fossil fuel projects, we could be organizing a massive shift -- one that prioritizes the planet, justice, reconciliation, and good economic growth while honouring the scale and urgency of the climate crisis.

It’s a huge vision and one that will require a lot of work. That’s why we want to know whether or not you’re in?

YES! To a Green New Deal NO! Focus on Other corporate issues

Thanks for all that you do,
Angus, Amelia, and the team at SumOfUs
