We won!

Together, we are powerful, which is why we wanted to send you this special update -- about three significant, people-powered wins we’ve achieved this week!

You rock!

A victory for workers!

SumOfUs protest in Paris during International Women's DaySumOfUs celebrates the Turkish workers' victory during International Women's Day in Paris

On International Women’s Day 2019 SumOfUs marched in Paris to stand in solidarity with women all over the world. We also celebrated the victory of the 132 Yves Rocher workers -- mostly women -- who finally won after being fired for joining a union and demanding a better salary and safer working conditions.

After 10 months of picketing, they secured back pay, compensation, and access to unemployment benefits.

This victory is a testament to those brave women’s courage and determination, but also to the amazing international... mobilization of SumOfUs members like you! More than 180,000 of us signed petitions, tweeted, donated money to support the strikers, and for that the workers are grateful, A.

The fight against Yves Rocher, and for the rights of all workers to join a union, earn a living wage, and work in safe conditions cannot stop today.

We defeated the palm oil lobby!

Today, under pressure from over 650,000 Europeans, the European Commission was forced to stand up to the palm oil lobby and outlaw most palm oil in European biodiesel!

SumOfUs members like you signed the petition and over 650,000 people participated in the Commission’s public consultation. Together, we persuaded the EU to put protecting our rainforests and the last orangutans before the profits of reckless palm oil producers.

Together, we did it.

But the fight isn’t over yet. The Commission failed to outlaw all palm oil in our tanks, leaving in some tricky loopholes. That’s why SumOfUs members will keep holding European governments to higher standards against fake ‘green’ fuels over the coming year, like France which recently decided to outlaw any palm oil in biodiesel.

Can you help us continue the fight against palm oil in biodiesel in Europe - so we can build on this significant victory while momentum is strong?

Yes, I can help sustain this work by becoming a monthly donor.

We got palm oil villain Indofood kicked out of the RSPO!

244,000 signatures on the SumOfUs petitionClose to 250,000 SumOfUs members called on the RSPO to suspend Indofood.

Finally, we did it! The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) just suspended Indonesia’s largest food company and notorious palm oil villain, Indofood.

Close to 250,000 SumOfUs members like you demanded the RSPO take strong action against Pepsi’s business partner Indofood and the RSPO finally listened.

Although the evidence of worker abuse and environmental destruction gathered by our partners at Rainforest Action Network, the International Labour Rights Forum, and OPPUK was crystal clear, it took the RSPO almost 3 years to take action against Indofood.

But eventually, the RSPO did act, and it’s thanks to you. Together, we sent a clear message: we won’t let anyone get away with putting profits before people and the planet.

Now we’re ramping up the pressure on PepsiCo to drop its business partnership with Indofood in Indonesia. But to do this, A, we need your help.

Today, we should celebrate these amazing victories. You can be really proud of yourself and the work you’ve done to change the world, one campaign at a time. We’ve achieved so much already, but there’s still so much more we can do.

The deadline major brands have set themselves, to stop all deforestation for palm oil by 2020, is fast approaching and we need to make sure Pepsi, Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, Unilever and Procter & Gamble are held accountable for the way they treat our rainforests and its inhabitants.

Can you please make a recurring donation to help us continue to transform the palm oil industry, to protect the rainforest, the people and the orangutans?

Yes, I will help sustain this work by becoming a monthly donor.

It's about you, A.

All of these campaigns share on thing in common: you. Our movement is people-powered and that is the only power that we can use to truly balance that of powerful corporations. SumOfUs is almost entirely funded by small donations from members all across the world.

If you can spare a few dollars, would you consider joining them and becoming a monthly donor? Lots of small monthly donations add up: it gives us the financial certainty to plan far ahead and keep chipping away at these crucial campaigns.

Make a monthly donation

Thanks for all that you do,
Fatah, Rebecca, and the team at SumOfUs
