Adani is desperate

Adani Group is desperate to build one of the biggest coal mines in the world, right on the edge of Australia's precious Great Barrier Reef. But it's missing one key thing: insurance.

Several major insurers have already said no, but Liberty Mutual Insurance is refusing to take a stand. Tell Liberty Mutual to rule out backing Adani's disastrous mine now.

A,

For millions of years it’s been home to sea life so spectacular it can be seen from space. The Great Barrier Reef’s vivid corals and unique creatures make it one of the most spectacular places on earth.

But unless we act, the Great Barrier Reef is going to die.
Coal giant Adani Group is desperate to build one of the world's largest new coal mines right next to the Great Barrier Reef. This vast mine is a threat to traditional owners’ human rights, our climate, and one of the natural wonders of the world.

But we can stop it. With your help we can stop Adani getting one of the last things it needs: insurance. Without insurance, Adani cannot build this mine.

Eleven insurance companies, including the world’s biggest insurers like Allianz and AXA, have already ruled out insuring this mine.

But there's one major American insurer that is refusing to take a stand: Liberty Mutual. If enough people like you speak up, together we can force Liberty Mutual to reject Adani’s mine too.

Are you in?

Yes, I’m calling on Liberty Mutual to rule out insuring Adani’s Reef-wrecking coal mine.

If built, this mine is will be one of the largest coal mines in the world. At peak capacity it would pump out more carbon than Norway, Sweden, Greece and Chile.

And to export the coal it digs up Adani plans to dredge millions of tonnes of sea bed right on the Great Barrier Reef coastline.

It is being challenged by the Wangan and Jagalingou traditional owners, who are fighting the mine in Australian courts and at the UN.

The Great Barrier Reef has already suffered unprecedented bleaching events that has lead to masses of dead coral.

If we don't act, climate change will kill the reef.

Tell Liberty Mutual to rule out insuring Adani’s mega coal mine now.

Public pressure from people like you works. A huge public outcry has already made 47 global financial institutions decide that it’s too risky to fund Adani’s proposed Carmichael coal mine. When SumOfUs members acted, together we helped forced two of Australia's biggest banks to publicly back away from this destructive mine.

Still, Adani is hell-bent on pushing on. It’s now even paying for the mine itself.

To stop the mine once and for all, now we need your support to go after the insurers. Because it could be the decision of an insurer like Liberty Mutual that determines whether this mega-mine goes ahead and ruins our climate.

Adani’s on its last legs. With your support we can force Liberty Mutual to do the right thing and put the final nail in the coffin. Insurance companies aren’t used to being campaigned against so your voice along other SumOfUs members could really scare Liberty Mutual into action.

This mine is bad news and cannot go ahead. Call on Liberty Mutual to rule out insuring Adani’s Reef-wrecking coal mine.
