Your pension is probably invested in Brookfield Asset Management, a mega-player in the financial industry who refuses to take workplace sexual harassment seriously.
But you can help change that. Send a message to your fund manager today to prevent workplace sexual harassment.
A,
One in three women in the financial asset management industry have been sexually harassed at work, a sharp increase over past years.
At a worth of 350$ billion dollars, Brookfield Asset Management is one of the... biggest players in the industry. And we have filed a progressive shareholder proposal that would completely change the way it addresses sexual misconduct and stop more #metoo cases. This is the first time a proposal like this is being filed at any Canadian corporation and we know it will make waves if it passes. But we need your help to make it a reality.
If you’ve contributed to CPP, QPP, a retirement savings plan or mutual fund it’s likely invested in Brookfield Asset Management. Even if you don’t have a personal pension plan, the government does. The investor meeting where the proposal will be voted on is just weeks away. An email from you right now could literally determine if this proposal passes or not. And it will only take a minute -- and could make a massive impact.
Brookfield is a mega-giant in the financial world. The corporation has its hands in everything from real estate to logging, and hydroelectric dams to hotels. Canary Wharf in London, Potsdamer Platz in Berlin, Brookfield Place in New York, Toronto and Perth, and Darling Park in Sydney are all owned by Brookfield.
Our proposal is the first of its kind ever filed in Canada, and we couldn’t be prouder to have helped file it with the British Columbia Government and Service Employees Union, a union that understands that there is a risk to shareholder value for a company that fails to take sexual harassment and assault seriously in the workplace.
This is a groundbreaking proposal and could change the way that the financial sector deals with sexual misconduct. Brookfield, though, doesn’t want to see it passed. And with the meeting just a few short weeks away your email today is more important than ever.
SumOfUs exists to fight to hold corporations to account, and we’re no stranger to fighting to protect survivors in the workplace from harassment and assault. Our hard-hitting campaign targeting Canadian airline WestJet for failing to protect flight attendants from harm sent shockwaves through the company, and helped push the CEO to resign.
And we know that shareholder proposals like this work. We’re getting into the boardrooms of the biggest corporations on Earth and together, with the power of your pensions, we’re changing the way business is done. This year, we got 25% of the shareholder vote at Pepsico and made waves at the company. And we’re not stopping there.
With your help we can push for changes so that your pension money isn’t being invested in corporations refuse to take work place sexual harassment seriously -- from the inside out.
Thanks for all that you do,
Amelia, Lisa, Angus and the team at SumOfUs
