Burger King

Burger King is refusing to take bold action to address rainforest deforestation in its supply chain -- so we're pushing a powerful shareholder proposal at the corporation's AGM.

Will you help make sure it gets a strong vote? Simply ask your pension fund to support it on your behalf using our easy website. Anyone with a pension can take part:

Burger King is one of the worst in fast food when it comes to deforestation. Its beef, soy and palm oil, as well as its packaging, are destroying rainforests on a ‘Whopper’ scale.

But we have a powerful way to make Burger King act.

If you have a pension,... superannuation fund, or mutual fund, it almost definitely includes shares in the fast food giant’s owner, mega-company RBI. Tell your fund manager to vote for this shareholder resolution and demand that Burger King ends deforestation in its supply chain.

You have a critical role to play in making sure this resolution passes!

The annual meeting is next week, so please take a minute to message your pension fund now.

Deforestation causes almost 10% of climate-destroying, global greenhouse gas emissions -- and it’s killing plants and animals, disrupting rainfall patterns, and driving forced labour.

McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks have all set higher standards than Burger King to tackle deforestation -- and Burger King’s goals are so un-transparent that it’s impossible to tell whether the company is even sticking to its existing plans or not.

Please tell your pension fund to support our partner’s powerful shareholder resolution -- so that Burger King issues annual reports with concrete targets and plans for reducing deforestation in its supply chain.

Take a minute to tell your fund manager to vote to stop Burger King's deforestation.

Leveraging our power as shareholders is a prize SumOfUs member tactic. If we gather enough support for this ‘no-deforestation’ proposal, the CEO and board will be forced to respond at their annual meeting next week.

If Burger King was serious about tackling deforestation, it would do much more -- including adopting a 2020 timeline to source deforestation-free beef and soy, the two largest drivers of deforestation in its supply chain.

Use our tool to ask your fund manager to vote to save the forests - it only takes a moment.

We have been fighting to get the largest brands in the world to go deforestation-free for years -- and the campaign is working. Together we pressured McDonald’s to commit to 100% sustainable palm oil by 2020, and last year our target CitiGroup announced it was cancelling all lending agreements with forest-destroyer IndoAgri.

We want to buy from, work for and invest in companies that value the environment, treat their workers well and respect democracy. And we’re not afraid to hold them to account when they don’t.
