Meet the New Open Society Foundations Website

Dear Open Society Friends,

I am thrilled to announce the launch of our new website.

We started the redesign process by asking ourselves a simple question: How could we make sure that the site reflects, in its structure and design, our dedication to the basic principles of the Open Society Foundations? We chose to focus on three goals—accessibility, transparency, and storytelling.

We focused on accessibility to support a world in which people are welcomed to participate and debate. This meant that our website must be accessible to as many people as possible. I am pleased to note that our new site is fully compliant with one of the highest standards in digital accessibility. This reflects our broader commitment to inclusion and diversity, which drives much of the work that we do.

We focused on transparency because people coming to our website should be able to quickly and easily learn what we actually support—and better inform themselves at a time when hate, misinformation, and outright lies pollute our information landscape. Our new website is more intentional in explaining how we work, how we fund, and how our investments are used toward building inclusive and vibrant democracies.

And we focused on storytelling because we know the power of narrative to advance ideas and reinforce our values. Our Voices section is now more dynamic and responsive, so that we can better tell our stories in a range of new formats. I am especially excited about our new In-Depth series, which uses long-form journalistic pieces enhanced by multimedia tools to help showcase the vital work of grantees around the globe.

Taken altogether, the site now more accurately reflects who we are: diverse, compassionate, and engaged. It also looks great.

Please take a look and let us know what you think.

Best wishes,

Patrick Gaspard
President, Open Society Foundations
