Dear friends and supporters,

Our client Julia Lamb lived in fear of becoming trapped in pain and suffering due to her spinal muscular atrophy, a chronic degenerative illness that causes progressive painful wasting of her muscles.

Julia did not want to die immediately, but she was determined to have the choice to avoid a prolonged and agonizing death from her disease. Unfortunately, Canada’s 2016 law limited medical assistance in dying (MAID) to patients whose natural deaths are “reasonably foreseeable.” Julia would not qualify.

After years of fighting in court, we received incredible news in September: one of the government’s expert witnesses admitted that Julia now qualifies for an assisted death if she requests one.

Help us bring peace of mind to more people by helping us raise $30,000 by November 30th, 2019.

Donate now to give hope to people suffering without choice.

The government’s witness acknowledged that the medical consensus in Canada has evolved to no longer require a person’s death to be imminent in order to access MAID. People are no longer forced to resort to painful measures such as refusing antibiotics to treat a deadly infection or refusing food and water.

Julia raised her voice so that she and others could have access to this end-of-life option. The evidence in her case will help improve medical care and provide comfort to suffering Canadians.

The hope we have won for Julia is incredible, but we are not done breaking down barriers for those suffering with no end in sight.

Please donate today to help us expand access to medical assistance in dying.

We’re grateful to have supporters like you to help us fight on behalf of champions like Julia – and win.

Sincerely,
Grace Pastine
