A,
We just dealt a massive blow to Nestlé’s water sucking ways in Michigan -- and we literally couldn’t have done it without SumOfUs members like you.
On Tuesday, a court overturned a decision that would have forced the Michigan township of Osceola to issue a permit to Nestlé to build a massive water pumping station. This is a huge win for Michiganders who are against Nestlé’s attempt to suck the state dry, all to bottle water for profits.
This legal decision couldn’t have happened without SumOfUs members like you, who banded together to chip in over $50,000 to pay for the legal and administrative fees for the legal challenge.
Not only that, you saved a township from bankruptcy. Osceola Township, with a population of 2,000, was running out of options to pay to fight back against Nestlé’s water sucking ways. Until you came in.
For over three years, generous SumOfUs members from around the world have chipped in to the fight against Nestlé’s attempt to increase its water intake in Michigan. Over 375,000 SumOfUs members around the world, and tens of thousands of Michiganders, have time and time again taken action against Nestle's water sucking ways in Michigan.
You've also fought back against water giants... taking water in France, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand -- and won.
We keep winning against billion-dollar corporations like Nestlé because generous SumOfUs members like you show us their continued support so we can do the work we do.
Tuesday night, right after we heard about this victory against Nestlé, we got this note from the Martin, the Treasurer of Osceola Township:
"Today, we celebrate with each and every one of SumOfUs members with the Michigan Court of Appeals judgment in favor of Osceola Township vs Nestlé Waters North America Inc. We thank you for your past support against corporate giants like Nestlé. This is the third year in a row that SumOfUs members have stepped in to help the Osceola Township fight back against Nestle Waters North America Inc. Combined, you have chipped in more than $50,000 to help in the legal fight – helping the township stay afloat when we were facing bankruptcy. This year, you have chipped in tens of thousands of dollars more. This court victory couldn’t have happened without SumOfUs and its members."
Getting thank you notes like this that I can pass along to SumOfUs members like you is my favourite part of the job. We can only achieve these massive victories thanks to your generosity.
Over and over again, SumOfUs has dealt massive blows to Nestlé around the world -- pushing for water legislation in British Columbia, Canada, winning against its French brand Vittel, and stopping Nestlé in its tracks in Cascade Locks, Oregon.
And it’s not just Nestlé. We won huge against massive beverage maker Asahi-Schweppes' attempts to suck Stanley, Australia dry. And we helped stop a creepy unknown water corporation from taking water from drought-stricken Canterbury Plains in New Zealand.
We were able to continuously fight back against billion-dollar corporations like Nestlé around the world because of our generous monthly donors.
Thanks for all that you do,
Angus, Amelia, Leyla, and the team at SumOfUs
