... Join the movement for change.

Dear friends and supporters,

In 2019, your support empowered us to defend civil liberties, and human rights across the country.

This year, you enabled us to increase access to medical assistance in dying, challenge prolonged indefinite solitary confinement, and defend the freedom of speech of the most vulnerable – and so much more

Over the next 12 days, starting today, we will be sharing 7 emails with you, each one highlighting a crucial civil liberties, and human rights issue we need your help to advance in 2020.

Maggie Knight

We need your support more than ever to ensure we can continue each and every fight, from coast to coast to coast.

We crunched the numbers, and determined that we need 1,000 donors by the end of December to fuel our momentum in this crucial time in Canada.

We need to grow our movement now more than ever because illegal government spying, and other threats to our civil liberties continue. We need your help to keep fighting back.

Will you join our movement for change by making a $5 donation today?

This July, we released the “Protest Papers,” a staggering volume of CSIS records that show CSIS was illegally spying on Indigenous people, activists, and environmentalists. We are so encouraged that journalists, and thousands of supporters like you downloaded these revealing documents to hold the government to account. Together, we fought on behalf of people exercising their rights to demand a better world.

In 2020, we will be challenging the redactions in the documents and the ongoing gag order that restricts witnesses involved in the complaint from speaking about the proceedings. We will also continue to challenge the Security Intelligence Review Committee ruling that Canada’s spy agencies did not commit any wrongdoing.

Now is the time to join our fight against illegal spying on people in Canada. With a minority federal government, we have real opportunity to demand action now.

Donate $5 today so we can continue to fight for our rights in 2020

By making a gift to the BCCLA you join our movement for change. We are so grateful to have supporters like you stand with us every step of the way.

Sincerely,

Meghan McDermott
Acting Policy Director
