No public money to the Coastal GasLink Pipeline!

Millions in public money could go to as early as February 26th. Take action. r1

Friends,

As thousands across the country take to the streets in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en land defenders and hereditary chiefs, a federal government crown corporation— Export Development Canada (EDC)— is considering handing over millions of dollars in public money to the very project that sparked this resistance.1

Export Development Canada has a track record of financing projects that violate Indigenous rights and disregard climate science. In 2018, they were essential to the federal government’s controversial buy-out of the TMX pipeline. Now, they could be committing an undisclosed amount of money to the Coastal GasLink Pipeline as early as February 26th.

Sign a message to Export Development Canada, Minister of International Trade Mary Ng, and Justin Trudeau to tell them this is unacceptable.

Justin Trudeau has built his political legacy on promises of reconciliation and climate leadership, yet has lived up to neither. Not only is he allowing militarized RCMP officers to enter unceded Wet’suwet’en territory to enforce an illegal injunction, he is also turning a blind-eye to the possibility of a crown corporation publicly financing the project.

Right now our... country is at a crossroads. It can either withdraw the RCMP and sit down with Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs in the interest of upholding Indigenous rights, or it can greenlight further police brutality and pour millions (and potentially even billions) more into the fossil fuel industry in the midst of a climate emergency.

It’s time to tell EDC and the federal government which side of history you want them to be on.

Once you’ve sent your message, please take a look at the Wet’suwet’en Supporter Toolkit and see if there are other ways you can help make sure the federal and provincial governments, RCMP, and Coastal GasLink/TC Energy (formerly TransCanada) get their #HandsOffWetsuweten.

In respect and peace,

Clayton
