'One World Together At Home' — What Was Accomplished
...
Hi Paov,
Wow! Millions of Global Citizens in Canada and around the world just tuned-in to our historic show thanking frontline workers in the fight against COVID-19 and raising critical funds to support the World Health Organization (WHO). And the best part — it raised almost $128 million (USD) to fight coronavirus!
This was no ordinary show. The hurt in the world is palpable and many of us are stuck in isolation, so Global Citizen joined forces with WHO and Lady Gaga to bring the world together without anyone leaving their homes. One World: Together At Home was our way to say thank you to all the courageous frontline workers, doctors, and nurses who have been working day and night saving lives, keeping grocery stores open, and our world turning.
Here’s how that $128 million shakes out:
- $55.1 million for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response to help organizations like the WHO track and contain the virus, develop a vaccine and provide critical protective gear to frontline workers.
- $72.8 million to ensure people’s most basic needs are met. The money will go to foodbanks, shelters and community groups around the world.
This money will help ensure that everyone, everywhere is protected against the effects of coronavirus — click here to read more.
At Global Citizen we find meaning in music — inspiration, comfort, sadness — and that emotion connects us even when we’re apart. We hope One World: Together At Home helped with these hard times.
With gratitude and hope,
Neha and the Global Citizen team
