Humanity is desperate for a covid-19 vaccine. But Big Pharma will hold it to ransom when they find one - and turn the pandemic into their biggest-ever money spinner. Execs are already signaling that they’ll charge through the roof for a vaccine, which could leave millions priced out!
It doesn’t need to be this way. Costa Rica’s government has created a knowledge pool where countries can share information, and together find an affordable treatment.
But after getting billions in public funding, powerful pharmaceutical companies are hoarding the information we need. So we need to demand that they join the knowledge pool and share what they’ve discovered. Let’s up the pressure with millions of people around the world calling... to make a people’s vaccine a reality!
This is a vulnerable moment for Big Pharma execs. Do they really want to be seen profiteering as people die?
For decades, under the guise of patent laws, these companies have raked in billions in profit - selling treatments for whatever price they want by preventing others from making cheaper versions.
But Costa Rica’s plan could create a giant repository of knowledge in the fight against covid-19 that would be freely accessible to all countries of the World Health Organization -- and keep lifesaving treatment accessible for everyone. If we can get companies to join it.
Let’s make sure these pharma giants don’t use the biggest public health crisis of our lifetimes as a business opportunity, but instead answer this crisis with a collective response that will save millions of lives!
