Announcing the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund

Hi Paov,

Even before COVID-19, almost half of all Nigerians were living in poverty; while many had been left vulnerable by a historically underfunded health system. Now, the pandemic has sparked both a health and socio-economic crisis that could leave millions more people at risk of poverty and poor health.

Millions of vulnerable people don’t have access to the health care they need to combat a crisis on the scale of COVID-19 — which has also created a loss of income for almost 80% of Nigerian households. With nearly 40 million jobs expected to be lost by December, the economic crisis is as big a concern as the health crisis.

Now, if no action is taken, millions of the country’s poorest and most vulnerable will sink deeper into extreme poverty, living on less than $1.90 a day.

This is why Global Citizen, in partnership with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), has launched the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) — to help mobilize the support of philanthropists, corporations, and individuals around the world.

Money raised through the NSSF will be committed to supporting vulnerable groups, building resilient health care systems, and training the Nigerian youth and workforce for a post-COVID economy.

With your help, we have the power to drive lasting change for generations to come. Let’s stand in solidarity with Nigeria and make an impact — learn more, pledge your support, help spread the word, or donate to help empower and transform the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.

Here's to building a new Nigeria, together,

Maimuna Maibe and the Global Citizen Team
