Enough is enough. We're suing the RCMP Commissioner.

This is a test r1

Dear Friend,

Today, we announced that we are suing the RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki.

For over six years, we’ve been waiting for a response to our complaint against the RCMP for illegally spying on climate organizations and First Nations opposed to the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline project. Secret surveillance creates a chilling effect. People who have been illegally spied on are waiting for real answers and accountability.

Enough is enough. The RCMP Commissioner’s inexcusable delays are sabotaging the civilian watchdog complaint process. The BCCLA won’t let that stand.

We’re suing the RCMP Commissioner because communities across these lands who have been demanding an end to the abuses of police power deserve better.

Join us in demanding real answers. Will you make a donation of $50 toward our lawsuit against the RCMP Commissioner?

In June 2017, the RCMP watchdog, the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission (CRCC), launched an investigation into our complaint and completed an interim report. This interim reported was forwarded to the RCMP... Commissioner, who needs to respond in order for the CRCC to prepare a final report.

Over three years later, the RCMP Commissioner still hasn’t provided her response to the CRCC.

In simple terms, we believe that the RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki has breached her obligations under the RCMP Act and violated our Charter right to freedom of expression by failing to respond.

The RCMP is one of the most powerful institutions in our society. This lawsuit is no small undertaking.

We need you to join us to take on the RCMP in the courts and make our voices louder than ever.

Court processes are long and complicated. They require time, resources, and creative tactics. With your support, our lawyers can put their best arguments forward, and stand before the court with conviction.

The RCMP Commissioner has sat on this report for far too long. A win in this lawsuit would be a first step in holding the RCMP accountable.

We want to see these systems radically changed, but we can’t do it alone.

Thank you for joining us in this fight.

In solidarity,

Harsha Walia (she/her/hers)
Executive Director
