Wow! UN Declaration legislation was tabled today

r1

Canada just tabled new legislation to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples!

This is huge! We were in the room when the UN Declaration was adopted by the international community in 2007. We were so excited on that day.

Ever since, we've been working together with Indigenous partners to get Canada to put this international law into practice at home.

The legislation just... tabled, Bill C-15 An Act respecting the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, promises to do just that.

In the press conference on CBC Grand Chief Wilton Littlechild had the following to say:

“We never said the Declaration was perfect.... Yes there is more work to do, but... I believe this legislation is a roadmap to reconciliation.”

We've been working hard behind the scenes with partners in the Coalition for the Human Rights of Indigenous Peoples for many years.

This work, from briefing government officials, to educating the public about the UN Declaration, has been vital to this legislation being tabled today.

This is a big moment and you, through supporting CFSC, have helped to make it happen. Thank you!

Now we need to let our elected representatives know that we support this legislation and want it to pass!
