Friends,
You’ve probably heard Prime Minister Trudeau’s favourite talking point that we don’t have to choose between tackling the climate crisis and building the Trans Mountain pipeline. For years, we’ve been saying this isn’t true, but now it’s not just our movement saying it, it’s Justin Trudeau’s own government.
This morning, the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) released a report that makes it crystal clear that the only way Trans Mountain makes sense is if Canada doesn’t take any further action to tackle the climate crisis.1 So, we want to know, what will Justin choose: building Trans Mountain or taking action on the climate emergency?
We set up a simple tool to ask him this exact question. Send the Prime Minister a letter asking which side he's on: climate action or pipeline expansion?
The PBO was crystal clear, the only way Trans Mountain works is if we lock in our current level of climate inaction. That means not even meeting the weak, Harper-era targets that Trudeau is still using, let alone making a plan to get to net-zero by 2050.2
In other words, it’s a clear... decision: either you’re on "Team Trans Mountain", or you’re on "Team not torching the planet". It’s pretty obvious what side we’re on, but we need to know which side the Prime Minister is going to choose.
Click here and send him a message.
Onwards,
Amara
