CUBA: United Action Plan and Timeline to Defeat the Blockade in 2021!

Resolutions: This Action Plan continues to organize and mobilize our forces and allies to pass anti-sanctions, pro-normalization Resolutions in city and state elected bodies, as well Labor Councils, faith-based, and other representative and mass organizations.

  • 17th day of each month: We support the initiative of the Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba and growing participation in solidarity actions taking place on the 17th of each month against the U.S. blockade on Cuba, organized by the Canadian Network on Cuba
  • December 27, 2020: Solidarity Caravan Against the US Anti-Cuba Blockade. Last Sunday of every month.
  • January 3, 2021: The date new U.S. Congress convenes. There may be activities called by our allies and others around this time that we will want to support and participate in with information, signs, literature,... etc.
  • January 20, 2021: Local Actions on Inauguration Day will be initiated and organized by our supporters in cities across the US and Canada against the Blockade and for U.S.-Cuba Normalization. Cuba solidarity and anti-blockade activists will participate as a contingent in inauguration activities in Washington DC.
  • April 2021: April 2021 marks the 60th Anniversary of both the launching of the Cuban Literacy Campaign and the failed mercenary attack against Cuba at the Bay of Pigs/Playa Giron, organized in Washington DC by the bipartisan US government. We project a major International Webinar to commemorate these historic events.
  • May 2021: Our broad Cuba solidarity movement has always been nurtured, inspired, and renewed by our visits to Cuba. Our Plan of Action plan for 2021 includes supporting and promoting upcoming brigades including:
  • Friday, May 21: The UN General Assembly votes overwhelmingly against the US blockade and speaks out against U.S. anti-Cuba policy on this day. Our goal is the organization of internationally coordinated actions on May 21, 2021, the day of the UN vote. Working with ICAP and Cuba solidarity groups and coalitions in every corner of the globe to join we want to promote active protests at the United Nations in New York City, in front of the White House in Washington, DC, and in cities across the US, Canada, and internationally.

We will also continue to organize further International Webinars up to the May 21, 2021 vote at the United Nations. In the months ahead we will explore the possibilities of a physical-hybrid Conference on the May 21-23 weekend if health and safety conditions permit.

On December 17, 2014 ALL of the Cuban 5 Heroes returned victoriously to Cuba! After spending over 16 years held unjustly in U.S. prisons for defending Cuba against U.S.-backed terrorism, the freedom of all of the Cuban 5 was a historic victory for the people of Cuba and the world! It was also on that same day the U.S. President Barack Obama and Cuban president Raul Castro announced a new era pointing towards the normalization of U.S. – Cuba relations. On December 17, 2020 we will mark the 6th anniversary of the freedom of the Cuban 5 and the promises made to Cuba regarding U.S.- Cuba relations. Specifically, we will join together to demand an end to the unjust U.S. blockade on Cuba! Despite the global pandemic, the U.S. government and Trump administration has made 2020 the most cruel and costly year of the over 60-year blockade against Cuba. President Trump’s vicious tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade in the last four years caused Cuba over $5 billion in damages against the island's economy. Now, with the election of Joe Biden and a new U.S. Administration, our work as Cuba solidarity activists from around the world must continue with increasing effort and actions to end this over 60-year old policy once and for all!In the face of the ongoing challenges imposed by U.S. blockade, Cuba continues to lead the way in the struggle against the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently there are more than 3,700 Cuban medical workers serving in 39 countries and territories with the ‘Henry Reeve’ International Medical Brigades. At the same time, Cuban medicines and treatments are being used around the world and Cuba has also been one of the most successful countries at fighting Covid-19 within its own borders. This 24 hour virtual event will also be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) who have been organizing and promoting Cuba solidarity from across the Island and around the world for 60 years! Please join the Canadian Network on Cuba and our allies in Cuba and around the globe on December 17 for our 8th monthly virtual protest action, and first ever 24-hour action, against the blockade on Cuba! It will be a continuation of coordinated monthly protests against the U.S. blockade which have been taking place in Vancouver, Ottawa and Montreal, Canada and Kiev, Ukraine on the 17th of each month since 2015.
