BREAKING: Biden cancels Keystone XL

Now let's call on Trudeau to pass the Just Transition Act he promised r1

Paov,

I can’t quite believe it but, today, US President Joe Biden moved to finally cancel the Keystone XL pipeline.1

The climate movement and Indigenous land defenders have been fighting this massive tar sands project for over a decade. Now, it’s finally over. This moment proves two things: people power can change what’s politically possible and that the fossil fuel era is rapidly coming to an end.

But, rather than meeting this moment, Prime Minister Trudeau wants to keep building pipelines.2 Let’s tell him to get his act together.

Will you join us in calling on Trudeau to keep his promise to workers and legislate the Just Transition Act that he promised us back in 2019?

Canada shouldn’t mourn the demise of Keystone XL. And we definitely shouldn’t double down on building the Trans Mountain pipeline. Instead, Trudeau needs to read the writing on the wall and support workers in the transition to a green economy. It’s not too much to ask. In fact, it’s something he promised to do in his 2019 election platform.3

President Biden sent a clear signal today that he’s ready to take the climate crisis seriously.... We need to see that kind of leadership from Prime Minister Trudeau.

If Trudeau’s serious about climate change and protecting workers, he needs to start investing in real climate solutions that work for people and the planet. That means delivering a Just Transition Act that kicks off mass retraining programs for oil patch workers and generates thousands of good, green jobs.

The cancellation of Keystone XL has shown us that workers cannot wait any longer. We need the Just Transition Act now. Click here to tell Trudeau.

The Just Transition Act is one step towards a Green New Deal that completely retools our economy to tackle the climate crisis and rising inequality. That means, we’ve got a big fight ahead. But if today has shown us anything, it’s that when we stand together, we can win even the most uphill battles.4

With gratitude and hope,

Cam
