The worlds first international congress to d

You know, better than most, that tribal peoples are the best conservationists. Yet again and again innocent indigenous people have told Survival campaigners (including me) stories of land theft, rape, beatings and killings in the name of “conservation.”

From the Congo Basin to India, from Guatemala to Kenya, millions of people have lost their lands and livelihoods to make way for national parks, “green energy” projects, and other false solutions to biodiversity loss and climate change.

For years, we’ve been wanting to bring all their voices together and give them a platform to speak to decision makers, journalists and people like you. To tell you their truth: that we’re destroying the best guardians of our natural world in the name of nature conservation!

So here it is:

“Our land, our nature” will be the world’s first major international congress to decolonize conservation. It will bring together more than 30 activists, experts and scientists (indigenous and non-indigenous) from around 18 countries. Taking place on September 2-3, immediately before the World Conservation Congress, in Marseille, France, it will offer a counter-narrative to this “official” congress.

It will explain why so many indigenous and local people oppose both “30x30” – the push by government, industry and big conservation NGOs to turn 30 per cent of the globe into “Protected Areas” – and the “Nature-Based Solutions” which put a price on the value of nature. These plans will lead to even more human rights violations, and to the biggest land grab in history, at the expense of tribal, indigenous and other local peoples.

We’re convinced that a real alternative vision of conservation exists. It’s the one which already works – where indigenous peoples are in control of their own lands. This alternative approach values human diversity and protects and enhances biodiversity. It is anti-racist, anti-colonialist, and rooted in real social and climate justice.

If, like us, you think this is one of the most important battles of our time, we’d be delighted for you to join us. You can register to attend, either online or in person, here:
