A beautiful thing about our community of readers at The Narwhal? They are our loudest cheerleaders. But even I am still in awe of how many of you have stepped up since we launched a campaign to add 194 new members on Saturday.
In just 72 hours, a whopping 146 readers have signed up to become members, giving whatever they can afford to ensure The Narwhal’s investigative journalism remains accessible for everyone.
I often think about this note from a member, who said they signed up because of the “satisfaction of knowing that my contribution makes your reporting available to someone who can't afford a paywalled service.”
We take pride in that, too. But our work is only able to remain ad- and paywall-free because of the hundreds upon hundreds of readers who give whatever they can afford each month.
YES, I’M ABLE TO LEND A HAND It’s why we’ve smashed membership target after target and spent our past six months hiring seven new staff, including our brand new three-person Ontario bureau.
How busy have we been in Narlandia? We haven’t even had the chance of late to ask you to lend a hand. And as a result, we’re still a little behind on the members we need to make our budget work.
We need to reach 3,700 members by Oct. 31 — and that means adding 46 new members in the next four days.
What do you say? Will you sign up to give whatever you can afford to make our independent journalism available to thousands of others? Bonus: all our members get charitable tax receipts.
