Dear Friend,

Our virtual fundraising panel “No Justice in Isolation: Challenging Prison Conditions in Canada” is 3 weeks away!

Get your ticket today!

Criminalizing laws and systems extend into many aspects of our lives, and particularly impact Indigenous, Black, racialized migrant, disabled, and low-incoming people – trapping them in an expansive criminal legal system. This system includes prisons and the conditions under which people are incarcerated.

Prison conditions, such as solitary confinement, don’t happen in a vacuum. They’re informed by intersecting civil liberties and human rights issues, such as colonialism, systemic racism, criminalization, borders, classism, ableism, and so much more.

Join us on November 24, 6 pm – 7:30 pm PT for a virtual conversation with panelists... Jen Metcalfe from Prisoners’ Legal Services, poet and activist El Jones, and BCCLA Senior Counsel Megan Tweedie as they speak about prison conditions in Canada and how they intersect with other issues in our society.

BCCLA Staff Counsel, Jessica Magonet will be moderating the conversation to explore what transformative change is needed, and how we can all be a part of it.
