PAOV — “It is a basic human right for a person to have control over whether they want to have a child or not. Therefore prescription contraception should not be viewed as a luxury, but instead, as a right.” British Columbia’s government promised to implement free prescription birth control in the province back in 2020, but has yet to do so. This petition is demanding that free prescription contraception be included in the 2022 budget. You can show your support by signing the petition now.

It is time to hold the BC NDP and John Horgan accountable for their campaign promise to provide free contraception to British Columbians under BC PharmaCare! It is a basic human right for a person to have control over whether they want to have a child or not. Therefore prescription contraception should not be viewed as a luxury, but instead, as a right. Today, in BC, many people are affected by the inability to afford or have access to various methods of contraceptives. It is important to hold politicians accountable for the promises they make to get elected when follow-through is seemingly nowhere to be found. It is also our belief that this will help to significantly reduce unintended pregnancy and abortion rates, especially among the youth in BC.
As a result, we propose that free contraception must be included in the 2023 budget. Additionally, it is important for people who voted for the NDP to get what they were promised. Although free contraception was a heavily publicized election promise it was disappointingly not included in their 2021 or 2022 budgets. We hope that by bringing awareness to this the BC NDP and John Horgan will be held accountable and make the pledge.
