There's a crisis in our forests

Dear PAOV,

You’ve signed the petition calling for an end to old-growth logging and have become part of the wave of public pressure that’s pushed the BC government to review its broken forest policies and promise change.

It’s time to demand Premier Horgan keep his promise to protect old-growth forests.

As we work to get through the COVID-19 pandemic, this period of uncertainty requires governments to step up and safeguard critical ecosystems — in BC that means protecting non-renewable old-growth forests.

Last fall, the BC government’s old-growth review panel delivered a groundbreaking report calling for a paradigm shift in the way forests are managed in BC. The government released the report to much fanfare, but so far its action has been limited to a handful of deferrals in some old-growth areas and big election promises.

Politicians pay attention to an issue when they hear about it from their constituents — the BC government is reluctant to stand up to logging corporations and will stall on making change unless we demand it. This is a critical time to raise your voice and insist the Horgan government walk its talk on old-growth. Write your letter today!

From the Nahmint Valley to Prince George to Haida Gwaii, logging destroys old-growth forests every day. We’re calling on you and thousands of fellow activists who’ve signed the petition to participate in an escalating series of actions to let our government know that in addition to the public health crisis, there’s a crisis in non-replaceable old-growth forests and they must act.

This is a rare opportunity for much-needed change — let’s seize it.

Add your voice now to the chorus calling for a just transition to sustainable second-growth forestry.

For the ancient forests,
