PAOV — “If we don’t take care of their pets, we are putting their humans in danger.” British Columbia does not provide for family pets in their natural disaster response plans. This means that no pet food is provided at emergency shelters and hotel pet fees are not covered or reimbursed. Following November’s devastating flooding, petition starter Nicole heard from dozens of people - pet owners desperate for help to keep their pets safe and fed. Over 47,000 people have joined Nicole in urging the government to include family pets and their needs in disaster response plans so that families are not forced to abandon pets in emergency situations. You can show your support by signing the petition now.

47,884 have signed Animal Food Bank Foundation’s petition. Let’s get to 50,000!
Pets are forgotten in formalized disaster response plans. The BC Government does not provision for them to be provided food or shelter or cover hotel pet fees in their hotel voucher program. Their needs are not considered during immediate crisis intervention. Organizations like Animal Food Bank step in to fill this gap. Completely volunteer operated and non-funded. We ask for a unified approach and plan for immediate crisis intervention, consistently available for evacuees at ALL Emergency Services locations during natural disasters. We ask that you create a Task force made up of organizations like ours, and the many sister grass-root organizations who work alongside us to ensure pets are taken care, sit at a table with you to change this. No pet should be left behind and no family should be left to choose their pets life over their own.
