It's War on the Planet
March 8, 2022
People's Climate March, New York City, 2014
Dear member of the SCNCC community,Today the world should be celebrating International Women's Day but instead we are grieving the deaths of thousands of civilians and soldiers in Putin's brutal war on Ukraine.
As ecosocialists, we are deeply distressed that, at a time when the world needs to focus on rapid climate action, Vladimir Putin has chosen to light a match. He is now threatening the use of nuclear weapons.
All of us are wondering what we can do. Some ordinarily peace-loving friends imagine that flooding weaponry into the Ukraine would be an act of solidarity with those fighting for democracy and against Russian domination. This is a dangerous folly. There is no military solution.
We should demand negotiation, not escalation. As North Americans, we need to expose the role of our own ruling elites, U.S. militarism, and NATO expansion in creating the backdrop of this conflagration. We risk a future in which military budgets soar and fighting climate change is abandoned.
Today, we are publishing an article by Ted Franklin entitled "Putin's Carbon Brief" that addresses this dangerous situation. We urge you to pay a visit to our website at systemchangenotclimatechange.org where you can find the articles below. And be sure to follow us on YouTube, FaceBook or Twitter if such is your wont.
