Dear friend,
This past weekend, people in 50 communities across the country participated in our day of action. It. Was. Incredible!
At these rallies and events, people imagined what their communities could look like, and what new opportunities we could have, if we had an effective just transition plan led by a Ministry of Just Transition.
There was so much creativity built into these events: we saw press conferences from the future reflecting on how we made a just transition happen. We saw cheeky announcements and ribbon cuttings on new Ministry of Just Transition offices. We saw info pickets and rallies outside MP’s offices. We saw people coming together to imagine and demand a just transition.
I am so grateful to everyone who organized, showed up, brought a sign, and shared photos of these events. You brought a vision for a Just Transition to life in your community and helped your neighbours see that a future beyond fossil fuels is not only possible but could radically transform our communities for the better.
This day of action had a big impact. I heard from participants that these rallies were some of the first public events they have been to in two years. In some places, folks said these were the biggest climate justice actions anyone can remember in their community. In a few locations, local MPs attended events, agreed to further meetings with constituents, and committed to table our just transition petitions.
One thing I heard continuously from action leaders and participants was that this was fun! The positive and progressive vision of a Just Transition really resonated and is inspiring new people to join this movement. In hard times like these, there’s a lot of power in presenting a positive, inclusive, and joyful vision like this one.

Watch the video of an amazing conversation we recently co-hosted with 350 Canada – with climate leaders Anjali Appadurai, Avi Lewis, and local organizers discussing the implications of the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on the climate emergency, and how we organize to win critical climate action to transition off fossil fuels fast.
