Paov,
I live in a part of rural Ontario that got hit hard by the recent record-breaking windstorm1. We lost power for a few days and we just got our internet back, but thankfully no one in my family was injured or killed, our animals are all safe, and we didn’t have any major property damage. Hundreds of people we know weren’t so lucky. Barns were flattened, roofs ripped off homes, livestock lost, and people killed.
The climate emergency is here and it’s clear that we’re not ready. Meanwhile, our government continues to delay the critical action we need to prepare communities for future climate disasters by propping up the fossil fuel industry.
When the repairman was at my place this morning to fix our internet connection he told me he’s worked more overtime in the past two years than at any point in his career because of increased storms and flooding. The climate crisis is... already affecting so much of our day-to-day lives. We deserve bold government action to make sure we’re prepared for the massive changes ahead with a Just Transition plan that puts workers and communities first. Together, we can make that happen.
In solidarity,
Katie
