PAOV — The 2022 Calgary Stampede is fast approaching and chuckwagon races will continue. Over 70 horses have died at Stampede chuckwagon races so far. Petition starter Allison says "the ‘tradition’ of injuring and killing horses needs to end now!" If you think that horses shouldn’t be raced to death for spectator entertainment, sign the petition calling for an end to the Calgary Stampede’s chuckwagon races.

67,571 have signed Allison Nicolas’s petition. Let’s get to 75,000!
We are calling on the Calgary Stampede and the City of Calgary to put an end to the disgraceful “sport” of chuckwagon racing, and review all of the safety measures of the Calgary Stampede, following the deaths of six beautiful horses at the Rangeland Derby of 2019.
The first horse died of a serious internal medical condition he experienced Monday, which was most likely a heart attack, but was apparently ‘not racing related’ according to the Calgary Stampede. The second horse was put down after suffering a broken leg during a race on Wednesday; and the third horse hit a guard rail and stumbled to the ground on the Stampede Park track. (Please see updates for details on the other 3 horses that sadly lost their lives during the 2019 Calgary Stampede)
"The Calgary Stampede has a long history of treating animals as disposable, and the accident last night clearly demonstrates that," said Trev Miller with the Calgary Animal Rights Effort (CARE).
Since 1986 there have been over 70 horse deaths and also 2 human deaths related to chuckwagon incidents at the Calgary Stampede.
There is no longer a need for anyone to watch such an outdated and barbaric “sport” like chuckwagon racing in this day and age. The ‘tradition’ of injuring and killing horses needs to end now!
