Each year, children die from being... unintentionally forgotten in their families’ vehicle. This is a horrible tragedy for the infant and has significate repercussions on the parent, family and society.
Recently, this horrible situation took the life of Everett Smith. While I didn’t know this young boy, my heart goes out to him and his family and I’m so sorry for their loss.
We need a change to help protect our children and families.
School boards in Ontario have Safe Arrival policies in place. When a child attending an elementary school does not arrive as expected, the schools make every reasonable effort to make timely contact with parents, guardians or caregivers.
This same policy needs to apply to daycares/child care centres.
If the daycares/child care centres were to call and report the absenteeism, it would alert the parents that something is wrong and if forgotten force them to remember.
If notified in time, this could save a child’s life.
Sign this petition. Reach out to your local MPP. Reach out to the Ontario Minister of Education (Stephen Lecce). Let’s make a change.
