Beavers trapped and killed

Email template | Change.orgr1

PAOV — A city in southern Alberta is planning to trap and kill a family of beavers. Beavers are critical to the health of wetland environments and killing them will negatively impact their wetland home. Robin started this petition to protect the beavers and says it is important that the city find a way to make neighbourhoods safe and inviting for people and wildlife. The beaver family in Nose Creek is being trapped and euthanized because of their ‘destructive’ behaviours. Beavers contribute greatly to wetland environments and their removal should not be taken lightly.

In fact, in Ontario, the beavers are neither killed or relocated, instead individual cities must find humane ways of accommodating these native animals.

Chewing is what beavers do, it is their natural instinct, it is up to The City of Airdrie to enact laws which will allow us to co-exist with them and take the responsibility of making safe neighbourhoods for both people and wildlife.

Should these beavers be killed the already failing health of Nose Creek will deteriorate further. Beavers have a huge effect on the ecosystem. In fact, they are responsible for creating a habitat which is inviting to the blue heron, a bird which eats the sick and dying fish in the creek to keep it healthy.

There are several other answers to the problem than trapping and killing these animals.

In 2022 there is no excuse to be killing wildlife. Sign the petition and save our beavers!
