We have some very good news to share.
Yesterday, we announced our ambitious Giving Tuesday goal of $75,000. This morning, we’re thrilled to announce that a generous donor has committed to match every donation we receive on Giving Tuesday.
This is a big deal. Reader donations are a key part of how we fund our nonprofit newsroom, and Giving Tuesday is one of the most important fundraising days of the year. So it’s critically important that we reach our goal.
And now, thanks to this generous pledge to match every donation, every donation we receive will be worth twice as much. If you give $5, we’ll get $10. And if you give $50, we’ll... get $100.
If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
Over the last 20 years, we’ve seen massive layoffs and newspaper closures all over the country as the old advertising and subscription-based business models of the 20th century have collapsed.
Investigative journalism in particular has been downsized or eliminated outright, since it’s the most expensive kind of reporting to do.
From the start, The Intercept rejected the old model of journalism. We operate as a nonprofit organization. We don’t accept corporate advertising on our website, and we don’t restrict our readership by putting our journalism behind a paywall.
But reader donations are a crucial element of how we fund this work, and that’s why we’re so excited to have received this matching pledge to help reach our ambitious Giving Tuesday goal of raising $75,000 by midnight tonight.
Thank you,
The Intercept team
