Dear friend,
Are you fed up with corporations hoarding wealth while the rest of us bear the brunt of inflation, inequality, and the climate emergency? You’re not alone. But together, you and I can take action and put a stop to it.
Big Oil CEOs are aggressively lobbying for yet another bailout. Despite another year of record profits, petroleum profiteers are angling for $11 billion dollars from the federal government. This is money that should instead be going to workers, communities, and the just transition we so urgently need.
Tell your MP to fund a just transition instead of lining the pockets of fossil fuel CEOs.
A JUST TRANSITION MEANS ECONOMIC JUSTICE AND GOOD JOBS
You and I know, the economy is rigged in favour of the super-rich. While most of us are struggling with skyrocketing expenses, corporations are raking in the largest profits in 50 years, compounding social, ecological, and economic crises we’re facing. That’s why we need a transition from our unjust economy to one that takes control over land, resources, employment decisions, utilities, wealth distribution, and more, away from private corporations and monopolies and restores it to the communities and people most impacted by these decisions.
That’s where a just transition comes in.
A just transition centres communities and people, not industry and profits. That means a more robust democracy, and a more just and fair economy, where corporations and the wealthy aren’t allowed to profiteer from crises or make decisions about what land is developed, who gets employment and who ends up unhoused, whether communities dependent on industry live or die, and whether our government makes decisions in the interests of the people, or powerful special interest groups.
A just transition means recognizing and affirming Indigenous sovereignty and knowledge systems and deprioritizes the colonial systems that brought us to this point in the first place.
OUR CAMPAIGN IS WORKING, BUT WE CAN’T LET UP YET
Powerful fossil fuel CEOs are getting in the way of the action we need because they have too much control over our energy and climate policies. It’s time to ramp up the pressure on the federal government to make sure that the just transition legislation is truly just.
PEOPLE POWER CAN OVERCOME PETRO POWER
You and I along with thousands of others from coast-to-coast need to flood parliament with massive waves of support to ensure the impending legislation rises to the challenge of the crises we face. Together, we can turn the tide.
It’s time for a just transition, not another bailout for Big Oil CEOs.
