Valentine's Day is tomorrow, Paov, and love is in the air...
… but so is CO2. That’s why we’re sending Trudeau a very special Valentine’s Day message:
It's no secret that the Trudeau government has an unhealthy relationship with the fossil fuel industry. That's why, this Valentine's Day, we're calling on Trudeau to break up with Big Oil. flowers or chocolates, but Big Oil does things differently.
Every year, they spend millions of dollars on lobbying and political donations to buy off our politicians. At the height of the pandemic, Canada's most powerful oil and lobby group even formed a secretive committee with top federal government officials to discuss “reducing regulations, strengthening 'investor confidence,' and creating post-pandemic opportunities for the industry”.1 And to make matters worse:
Reports prove that fossil fuel companies have known for decades how much burning fossil fuels would warm and harm our planet.2
We elect our leaders to work for us and represent our best interests – not Big Oil's. For Trudeau to do that, he has to break up with Big Oil, which means:
- No more political contributions from Big Oil.
- No more meetings with Big Oil lobbyists.
- Climate action that matches the speed and scale of the crisis.
Paov, Big Oil has done enough damage to our political system and our planet. With the climate crisis escalating, we need Trudeau to act now – but first, we need to get Big Oil out of the picture.
Let's make sure Trudeau hears from thousands of people across Canada with Valentine's messages urging him to break up with Big Oil. Will you take action with us and send your own letter now? We've even gone ahead and drafted it for you, so all you have to do is click!
Breakups are never easy. But this toxic relationship between Trudeau and Big Oil has to end. Thanks for helping us make it happen.
