LGBTQ activist deportation order

Email template | Change.orgr1

PAOV — Lillian Nanyanzi is a human rights activist and mother of 4 who arrived in Canada from Uganda in 2019. Her permanent residence application, based on humanitarian and compassionate grounds, is still pending and her deportation was recently ordered. If Lillian is deported to Uganda, she’s at risk of homophobic-fueled attacks for her work with the LGBTQ community. In Toronto, Lillian works for human rights organizations and shelters, and is a valued member of her community. Mark started his petition to stop Lillian’s deportation — you can help by signing now.

  1. Human Rights Activist and Defender Lillian Nanyanzi a born of Uganda was targeted for employing and supporting members of the LGBTQ community in a homophobic society of Uganda. She was occasionally attacked, her business and personal belongings destroyed by the Anti-LGBTQ mobs. This put her life and family at unspeakable danger.

Lillian fled Uganda on 15th October 2019,and arrived in Toronto where she applied for protection however the immigration and Refugee Board denied her claim on grounds of insufficient evidence to support her claim.

Lillian has tried several times to exhibit her profound and well-established fears for her life if she was to return to Uganda but unfortunately the CBSA Insists that she must be deported together with her Canadian citizen son.

Lillian is a mother of four children whom she is single handedly working to provide for including a two years old Canadian born son Hasheem Kanyike, with whom she is at a risk of being deported.

  1. Lillian is working as a Shelter Support worker with Violence Against Women ( VAW) Shelter. she worked as crossing guard at carry away safety, community safety worker, Relief Support worker in different Shelters across the Greater Toronto Areas.

Lillian is a very well trained Shelter Standards expert, First Aid ,CPR and CPI professional and a Certified Naloxone Specialist. She worked day and night on the frontline in various Shelters during the pandemic period. Her skills are greatly needed by her vulnerable clients in Canada.

Lillian has no criminal record whatsoever, files her taxes promptly. She volunteers with various community based organizations like The New African Canadians Association, Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto and The 519 Toronto, FAD Foundation and People With Aids (PWA).

The deportation orders have left Lillian greatly devastated, traumatized and depressed for fear of being killed.

Lillian applied for permanent residence status on humanitarian and compassionate grounds however she is being deported before getting a decision on this application. She feels no one is ready to listen to her cries!! It feels like she is being sacrificed!!
