Come to Our SCNCC Sunday Webinars on False Solutions to Climate Change! Net Zero - Feb. 26, Hydrogen - Mar. 19 r1 ... Click here to view this email in your browser

System Change Not Climate Change has published many stories about false and partial (thus useless) solutions to climate change as well as those that have promise but have been captured and distorted by capitalists. Our upcoming webinars will continue and amplify this focus.

We are pleased to announce two upcoming webinars. We'll have more about the Sunday, March 19 webinar on "green hydrogen" with Ashley Kosak in a future message; for now, please hold the date (times as below).

On Sunday, February 26 @ 10 a.m. PT, 11 a.m. MT, noon CT, 1 p.m. ET, SCNCC's own David Klein will speak along with Aura Vasquez on the subject of "Net Zero vs Real Zero: Decarbonizing LA and Defeating Capitalism."

Please register early to save your seat!

About the webinar and our speakers:

A clarion call for "net zero" greenhouse gas emissions has been embraced by nearly everyone — politicians, corporations, nations, even many environmentalists. But what does that really mean, and can "net zero" sufficiently address the climate crisis? These questions will be addressed along with a brief summary of the state of the climate, the insidious role of capitalism, and a survey of climate activism in Los Angeles. The talks will be followed by an open Q&A and discussion of strategies to combat the disinformation around this false solution.

Click Here To Register David Klein is a mathematical physicist and emeritus professor of mathematics at California State University Northridge, where he helped to establish a NASA-funded Climate Science Program. He received his Ph.D. from Cornell University and has held teaching and research positions at Louisiana State University, UCLA, and USC, as well as being Guest Scholar at National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan. He is a member of Democratic Socialists of America and System Change Not Climate Change and author of the ebook Capitalism and Climate Change: The Science and Politics of Global Warming. David has written about the follies of "net zero" for SCNCC; see link below. Aura Vasquez chairs the Democratic Socialists of America-Los Angeles Climate Justice committee and previously served on the Board of Commissioners to the L.A. Department of Water and Power. She led the Sierra Club’s 'Beyond Coal' campaign, securing a commitment from Los Angeles to go coal-free by 2025. Aura helped pass the ban on single-use plastic bags in the city, helped retire three coastal gas plants, and contributed to the establishment of the country’s largest commercial solar panel program. Aura has also fought predatory developers while supporting affordable housing. She founded Ready to Help, a mutual aid organization that addressed some of the most pervasive issues facing vulnerable communities during the pandemic.
